Bill Yenne

Friday, May 29, 2009, 7:30 p.m.

UCSF Laurel Heights Conference Center
3333 California Street (near Presidio Avenue), San Francisco

The Irish Literary & Historical Society is pleased to present Bill Yenne as guest speaker on Friday evening, May 29, 2009.  He will talk about the topic of his recent book on the fascinating, colorful and complex history of Ireland’s world-famous Guinness beer. For aficionados, this tale offers an inside look at the legendary brewing company and the craftsmanship and pride that go into every keg of what Yenne calls “probably the world’s greatest beer.”  Conde Nast Portfolio magazine named Yenne’s book as the “top book of the year for cocktail conversation.”

Yenne is a prolific author who has written on a wide variety of subjects, from history to popular culture to transportation.  His books on beer and brewing history include The American Brewery, Beers of the World, and Great American Beers.  In a review of his recent biography of the American Indian leader Sitting Bull, the New Yorker said that it “excels as a study in leadership.”  The same book was named by Amazon to the
number 14 spot among the “Best 100 Books of 2008.”

Bill Yenne traces his lineage to County Cork by way of his father’s mother, and to County Clare by way of his mother’s father.  He lives in San Francisco.

Please join us as we welcome Bill Yenne as guest speaker on May 29th.  His presentation will be followed by a Q&A, a short business meeting, and a reception.
